Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to help out on the days of the competition, and also with the planning and holding of the exhibition of the entrants' photos. If you have any spare time or skills to offer and you would like to volunteer, give Rob a ring on 02920 382151, or email photos@parkviewcafe.org.uk. Or you can register your interest on our website as well on the Friends of Parkview page on the cafe's website.

Cameras

You can use any camera that you want, but if you do not own your own digital camera, we have five rather nice Panasonic digital compact cameras that are available for use by competitors. They're very easy to use, with a large screen on the back and image stabilisation, which makes them suitable for people who might struggle with more complicated cameras, and allows them to concentrate on the creative side of the competition.

Rules

These rules have been adapted (and simplified) from Cardiff photo-marathon's rules:

1. The competition is an entirely digital event. You can take part with a digital camera or mobile phone.

2. You must capture 6 images on 6 given topics, in the same order that the topics appear on the list given to you. You can delete a photo on the memory card before you continue to the next topic. Images must be in the order the items are listed in on the topics list. i.e This means that topic 1 is first on the memory card, followed by topic 2, 3, 4 etc.

3. All images must be taken on the same camera.

4. You are free to use flashguns, filters and tripods.

5. You are not permitted to edit the images, use any image-processing programs or use images that are not taken during the day. Any manipulation (or suspected manipulation) of the image metadata will cause the entry to be disqualified.

6. Only memory cards with 6 images on them will be eligible for downloading. You are not permitted to have more than 6 images on your card at the end of the day.

7. You must collect the topics at the allotted times from Parkview Cafe.

Welcome...

... to the Parkview Cafe mini photo-marathon blog. 2011 is going to be the first year of what we hope will be an annual event that showcases the work of photographers in Cardiff, with an emphasis on inclusivity for people with disabilities. The event will take the form of a mini photo-marathon: competitors will be given 6 subjects, and they will be allowed to take one picture per subject. In contrast to a normal mass start photo-marathon, the competition will be run over consecutive weekends through the summer, in order for us to keep the groups small so that we can offer support to any of the competitors if they need it. The accumulated photos will then be judged in September, and the winners will picked in two categories: best overall portfolio and best individual picture. An exhibition will be held in Parkview of all the pictures taken, with an aim to tour the exhibition as far afield as possible after that.
There are lots more details to tell you about, and all will be made clear with succeeding posts! In the meantime, if you have any queries, you can contact us on photos@parkviewcafe.org.uk.
